History

Joyce Hampers, Founder and CEO of Joymark, Inc., the parent company of Giuliano, explains, “The concept of Giuliano was born of my desire to create ‘one-stop shopping’ for all of one’s beauty needs.  In 1993, no one in the Boston area was offering such an approach.  Outside of resort and destination spas, there were few ‘day-type’ establishments anywhere in the country.  I felt certain that there were plenty of people, who, like me,  would heartily embrace the time-saving convenience of ‘having it all’ in one place.  At the time, I was not at all aware I was defining a ‘day spa.’”

With a singular vision of the mind-body-spirit connection, Joyce was at the forefront of a revolution that was just beginning to sweep the country – a new way of thinking about the connection between health and beauty and fitness.  Demanding lifestyles and the stress of the new workplace were forcing people into time constraints, creating a demand for ‘quick fixes’ for health and beauty maintenance.

Giuliano Day Spa opened in 1994 with 5000 square feet of salon, retail, and spa treatment areas.Quickly establishing itself as “The Grande Dame” of Newbury Street,  Giuliano was by far the largest and most complete spa – salon location in the area and came to represent the high standards by which other spas would measure themselves.

The concept was so enthusiastically embraced by clients that Giuliano was expanded by another 2,500 square feet in 1997 to offer both men and women an even broader range of treatments. In addition to a comprehensive menu of massage therapies, body wraps,  facial treatments, vichy showers, nutritional programs and hair, nail and make up services, Giuliano became renowned as one of only two spas in the United States to offer the luxurious Rasul experience — an ancient, exfoliation-detoxification treatment combining steam, herbs and a variety of soothing, therapeutic muds in an ornately designed tiled chamber.

To keep pace with its ever-growing client base, the spa added yet another 4,500 square feet of space in May of 2001.  Through it all, Joyce remained vigilant in pursuing new ideas and cutting-edge technology.  Such that, in 2005, she revitalized and refocused the entire facility to create the contemporary and cutting-edge G2O.

The spa’s new name would recognize water as an essential element of our daily lives while simultaneously offering a creative reference to water’s basic molecular structure.  The connection would be more than appropriate.

As a life force, water sustains, rejuvenates, nourishes and cleanses.  Further, water is a common denominator for us all, making up 80% of the human body. Just as water simultaneously represents simplicity and universality, G2O would be dedicated to savoring the essence of life while celebrating a new generation of services and technology.

Amidst crisp white walls and soothing blue accents, G2O’s staff of award-winning professionals would be innovative,  set new trends and become the dynamic organization others would seek to imitate.

While enjoying exceptional success with G2O, Joyce still saw new challenges on the horizon. In 2006, she introduced unparalleled luxury and elegance to the Boston spa experience by creating EMERGE, the ultimate urban resort destination spa and salon.

Located only a few blocks apart on Newbury Street, EMERGE and G2O  smoothly balance and complement each other. They not only meet client expectations, but masterfully surpass them.  Both locations are proud to have been featured in such publications as Vogue, Allure, Lucky, Glamour, Shape, W, Boston Magazine, Self Magazine,  Travel & Leisure, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, among others.
